![]() David Cronenberg is an acclaimed Canadian filmmaker, screenwriter and actor who is among the first to popularize the horror genre known as body horror. In the southeast side of the town of Marshall, there is a large, heavily fortified and burnt out building with the name "Cronenberg Elementary School" visible above the main doors. However, while Cropsy uses a pair of normal garden shears in the movie, the hedge shears in State of Decay are always broken, appear to be modernized, and the broken piece can be used as a melee weapon when scavenged. In The Burning, the villain named Cropsy uses a pair of garden shears to murder his victims. Interestingly, the Breakdown DLC introduces the Hedge Shears melee weapon. ![]() Additionally, many shipping containers around the map (such as one in front of the courthouse) read "INIVAS" which is Savini spelled backwards. He also directed the 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead. He has acted in numerous zombie movies including Dawn of the Dead and its 2004 remake he played the biker Blades in the original and had a cameo as a sheriff in the remake, as well as played a biker zombie in Land of the Dead (2005). He was in charge of the makeup and gore effects for Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead, as well as many horror films such as Friday the 13th (1980) alongside with Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984), Maniac (1980), The Burning (1981), The Prowler (1981), Creepshow (1982), and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986). This is a reference to actor, stuntman, director, special effects and makeup artist Tom Savini (aka "The King of Gore" and "The Sultan of Splatter"). ![]() One of the potential Home sites is the Savini Residence. This is actually a reference to the much-beloved children's TV icon Fred "Mr." Rogers, who actually gave George Romero his very first directing job. Also in west Marshall is "Ma Rogers' Corner Store".It was followed by several sequels, including Dawn of the Dead (1978) and Day of the Dead (1985). George Romero made the original Night of the Living Dead (1968) which was responsible for creating the modern "undead cannibal" interpretation of a zombie. In Marshall there are green shipping containers with "Oremor" painted on the side of them, which is "Romero" spelled in reverse.2.8 Land, Diary and Survival of the Dead.
